Raiding and Status
A book I’m reading had the following quote in it. “Maintenance of status in any group is a full-time job.” I suspect this is an overstatement - it’s more like a part-time job for most groups or people simply wouldn’t have time to belong to more than one group. Since right now World of Warcraft is my major social activity, this made me think of WoW. How much of raiding is about maintaining status within the group as opposed to the loot and fun? It’s always interesting to me when I see how people remain people regardless of the situation - even in a world made of bits, people still react in much the same ways as they do in a world made of matter and energy.
