Yet another goal

Out of Mana: Accountability in BG

“I thought Alliance was good at AV, been losing every one today.”

Me: “Do you have at least 9K HP and 200 Resilience?”
No.
Me: “Well then, you are a very small part of a much larger problem.”

Yet another goal for my toons. I have a bunch of people I know getting close to 70 so maybe I can form up an arena team or two and we can get some resilience gear.

Dungeon Runners

The MMOGology: Keep it simple, stupid review of Dungeon Runners makes it sound like a game that my kids might like. I might even give it a try some time.

Maximize your character

Full time WoW addict: Maximize your character links to the theorycrafting posts on Elitist Jerks for most classes/specs. The theorycrafting can be quite complex but it can at least provide you with some good pointers even if you don’t calculate everything to the last decimal point.

Paladins - Tank - kara

Friday, January 4th, 2008

WoW Forums -> Paladins

This is the best breakdown I’ve seen of what my tanking paladin is aiming for. Now to get those stats up… I still can’t figure out the avoidance thing. I’m going to have to study that some more.

490 Defense - Crit immunity, you must have this or more, or else you might as well go home.

102.4% Avoidance - Essential for the second half of Karazhan, nice for the first half. Calculated as Dodge Parry Block Miss (Miss is the amount granted by mousing over your defense skill 5 for the mob’s base 5% miss rate). Include Holy Shield (30% base, 35.33% with the Heroic Badge Libram) in your calculation, barring latency issues, no boss can chew through 8 charges of Holy Shield in 10 Seconds in Karazhan. This will effectively negate Crushing Blows (150% damage) from bosses. That being said, Moroes crushes for about the same as Nightbane hits, so it’s not really that critical until youg et to the second half of Karazhan.

10k unbuffed health - Good enough for the first half, get to about 11k-12k unbuffed if you have any intentions of tanking Prince/Nightbane. It’s pretty hairy to tank Prince without 15k buffed, and even then, you’re throwing a lot of luck to your avoidance. Though it’s nice that Pally tanks shouldn’t get crushed ever on Prince, something that can often spike warrior tanks.

121 Spell damage sword - Minimum is 121, more is better, but don’t gimp your tanking stats, in Karazhan, you can ride Exorcism’s threat generation from the main tank position, toss a 42 oil on it, and use something like Adept’s elixir for trash/aoe pulls. Continuum Blade is optimal, Crystalforged Sword if you need the 1.5% block rating to reach 102.4%.

Warrior Frustration

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

My warrior, Tristam, is falling behind the group I play with. I missed an instance due to tanking it on my paladin instead, I had bad luck with a couple of drop quests and I’ve fallen behind by half a level or so. I figured I’d go do a couple of battlegrounds for the daily quests, maybe pick up a low end quest or two and catch up quickly. Boy was I ever wrong!

Quests that were trivial on my hunter and easy on my protection specced paladin at level or above are deadly to my warrior when they’re a level or three below him. Battlegrounds are an exercise in frustration - run in, try to hit someone, die, rinse lather repeat. I reached exalted with Stormpike on my holy priest so I thought maybe AV would be more fun than the other battlegrounds on a prot warrior. No such luck. I need to lrn2pvp on a prot warrior or I’m going to be very frustrated, especially as I want to get the Gladiator’s Shield.

My warrior is terrific in instances - I rarely lose a mob and when I do it’s usually the secondary or tertiary target that’s been dotted a little too hard by the warlock so that it dies while running to him. As I’ve mentioned before, my warrior is much more flexible than my paladin in dealing with single targets - i.e. bosses. It’s just that outside of an instance my warrior is even more useless than a holy priest pre 2.3, which is frustrating.

If you need to have a warrior tank for endgame, seriously consider leveling Arms or Arms/Protection spec then switching over at 70.
