In DeHamerspace ยป Working At Home – The Office he describes how he set up a shed to serve as his office. I’m not sure how practical this would be for a Manitoba winter, but it’s at least something to consider should I ever have the need to set up a home office. The other nice thing is that such an office would be somewhat portable. Unfortunately, he didn’t say how much it cost him to set it up.

Thanks for the mention of my home office project. The response I’ve gotten from people all over the web has been amazing. I have another post up on my blog now that discusses some of the common questions that I’ve been asked about my office, including the cost:

I read the follow up article and Brian goes into further detail. Definitely worth looking into if you need extra office space. I think something like this would have cut down on my mom’s stress levels for the (few) years my dad ran his business from his office in the house.
My shed turned office cost me $5,980.
$3400 for the pre-fab shed (installation included)
$1500 for electrical, phone and cable hook-up
$80 for the flooring
$800 for sheetrock, trim, baseboard, ceiling fan
$200 for office furniture from craigslist
I plan on spending another $200 for air conditioning -it gets hot here in Northern California
I have some photos on my blog if you’re interested.
Thanks for the additional numbers Anthony.
