Despite not doing daily quests for gold in preparation for Wrath, I do foresee a major gold sink coming up. My next wave of alts will all be hitting level 70 in a month (or two or three), which means 3 regular and 3 epic flying mounts. That’s 3 x 1000 + 3 x 5000 or 18,000 gold. My trickle of auction house earnings won’t cover that. It seems that I wind up barely breaking even when I try more aggressive auction house techniques, so I have no plans to step that up.
Enter daily quests. Nezoia has a Daily Quest Guide – Minimum Time, Maximum Gold that looks pretty good. She estimates 315 gold (includes selling drops) in 1 hour and 45 minutes. I know that at least two of my level 70s have the Netherwing starter quest chain done. I don’t have the Black Temple Medallion which will slow me down but it still looks quite doable.
Three toons at 300g/day gives 20 days to earn epic mounts for my three alts. I know it won’t be that fast because I don’t plan on starting dailies till my alts are close to or at level 70. Then there’s the issue of finding time to do six hours of dailies for 20 days straight. I suspect that I will do the Isle of Quel’Danas quests on my alts on an almost daily basis once they hit 70. Those quests take about an hour to do and should get me about 120 gold per day for each toon. I’m not sure how quickly you can get to exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive, but I’m guessing it will take about a month of dailies. 30 days x 120 gets me to 3,600 gold – enough for each alt to repay my other toons for the initial flying mount and to get a good start on saving up for their epic mounts. If Wrath of the Lich King isn’t out by then, I’m not sure what I’ll do.
