Alent has a post Of Tanks, Main Tanks and Team Building which points out the problem with having one main tank. In essence, if you have ONE amazing tank, the rest of the tanks will not be ready when they’re called upon to tank. What are you going to do when your main tank stops playing, goes on vacation, or has their computer die?
Alent recommends the following.
1) Rotate tanks on farm content even when they aren’t interchangeable.
2) Your Worst Tank needs to tank, too.
3) Tank Communication
4) Support and rewards
We’ve done very well at rotating tanks – so far we’ve managed to give most of those who are interested in tanking a chance to tank most bosses. We don’t really have a worst tank, but we have worked on ensuring that our tanks have the necessary skills. We are fairly weak in tank communication – basically we’ve been doing it in whispers on a somewhat erratic basis. I’d love to have Jaimie roll a tank – she does amazingly well at keeping her class/role channel a fun, active, and informative place. We’ve done well in support and rewards for our tanks.
